Renovation 2009-2012

Beta chapter has launched a two-phase renovation effort for 528 Beacon Street.

The House very much needs this deferred maintenance in order to become an inviting place for future generations of MIT students. We hope each and every brother will find a way to help.

This brochure explains the project and lays out the initial estimates for accomplishing the renovation. Many brothers have already stepped up to the challenge – additional gifts and pledges can be made using this gift form.

Project Phases & Status
Phase One Life Support and Superstructure May-September 2009
Phase Two Roofdeck, Lavatory, and Living Spaces May-September 2010

After a lengthy period of planning and deliberation, Phase One was carried out successfully during the summer months of 2009, and celebrated with a well-attended Chapter Rededication Event on November 14th, 2009.

Phase Two was approved by the Alumni Corporation in January 2010. After a design review during the spring, construction began in mid-May, and was completed just before September recruitment. Scope and design update pending from Building Committee Chairman Ilkka Suvanto.

Class Captains

Volunteer Class Captains have already been recruited for most of our graduation years. Their role is to personally follow up with their brothers to make sure everybody knows about the current need. If you would like to do this for your graduation year, please send an e-mail to the Campaign Treasurer, John Helferich '79 at helfejoh@mit.edu

For the fiscal year which closed on June 30, 2009, the MIT Alumni Association began recognizing alumni/alumnae who gave directly to their living group, as we are doing in this campaign. For Theta Chi, over 125 of our brothers have responded to the call so far. Here are the lists of contributors for FY2010 | FY2009.

Planning History

An enormous amount of homework has been done before choosing the current renovation option. Please see the sidebar links to Resources and Recent Correspondence for further details. There is also an archive of the original proposal and relevant material. If you have a question or suggestion, however, please feel free to e-mail tc-fundraise@mit.edu.
